2008-present   Associate Professor, California State University, Los Angeles, Charter College of Education, Division of Special Education and Counseling.

 

                        Responsibilities: Teach graduate level courses in Marriage and Family Therapy and School Counseling (Pupil Personnel Services with Advanced Authorization in Child Welfare and Attendance); supervise students who are completing fieldwork hours; perform student advisement; serve as theses advisor, participart in division, college and university level committees, and engage in scholarly activities such as conference presentations, research, and publications. Primary teaching load includes: Lifespan Human Development, Family Counseling with Children, Human Sexuality, Interviewing Strategies for Counselors, and Introduction to Counseling Theories.

                        Responsibilities: Teach courses throughout Pacifica’s programs. Courses taught to date include Dissertation Development (Depth Psychology), Child Abuse, Child Psychotherapy, Evening Process Training (M.A. Counseling), and Psyche in Nature (Depth Psychotherapy).

Responsibilities: School Counseling and Guidance. Provide counseling for students within a K-12 public educational setting; provide individual and group counseling, guidance/career counseling, and crisis counseling; classroom management, perform administrative duties, and participate in campus-wide committees.

Throughout my employment history, I have maintained a small private practice as a means for staying current and engaged in the field of marriage and family therapy.

Responsibilities: Provide psychotherapy for children and families in public school settings; consult with teachers and school administrators, perform clinical intakes, participate in weekly supervision groups.

Responsibilities: Coordinate university clinic, schedule client sessions; conduct clinical intakes; maintain clinical records; write clinical handbook, and serve as liaison with faculty and students who utilize the clinic.

 

1989-1992              School-Based Family Counselor (MFT Trainee), Garvey School District, Monterey Park, CA.

 

Responsibilities: Provide psychotherapy for at-risk children and families who were referred to psychotherapy by local public schools. GRIPP (Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention) funded program.

  • Collaborator: Council Training Program at CSULA with Joe Provisor, director of Los Angeles Unified School District’s Council Practitioner’s Center. Council allows ideas from diverse perspectives to be spoken freely resulting in non-judgmental understanding of self and others. Council has been practiced in many situations, in all levels of education, and is a model program within various schools in Los Angeles area. In this program, students at CSULA are trained as council practitioners within LAUSD. Many students can receive MFT internship hours through this program (2003-present).

 

  • Wilderness Guide and Staff, School of Lost Borders, Big Pine, CA: A training center for wilderness rites of passage. Includes programs for both teenagers and adults. I facilitate wilderness rites of passage groups, conduct workshops, write a quarterly newsletter, and make presentations to special interest groups and universities (2004-present).
